What's up with the Peer Mentors? Peer Mentors during summer 2007 completed their tutoring program in June at participating TUSD school sites. The 102 mentors provided services to five middle school sites which include Roskruge, Wakefield, Safford, Naylor, Hohokam and two City of Tucson Parks and Recreation programs at Udall Park and Henry Elementary School. Mentors provided 6,900 hours of mentoring and tutoring services to more than 480 Kindergarten through 8th grade school-age youths. WOW! The commitment and dedication that the mentors provided to the classroom is hard to measure but definitely appreciated and applauded by all who worked with them. In appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication Pima Prevention Partnership, Project Pledge staff will hold an Appreciation Banquet for the mentors and their families on August 24, 2007 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Roskruge Middle School. Great job mentors, we look forward to seeing you at banquet! Getting ready for the 2007-2008 school year!
More great mentoring opportunities! Mentors - Summer is coming to an end but the new school year brings with it new opportunities for mentoring! Mentors with their trainings completed can continue to participate in monthly scheduled community events and in the after school program at Roskruge Middle School tutoring grades K-5 in reading, writing and math. This program reached more than 80 students at Roskruge last year. New Mentors - The school year is a time for new mentors to participate in orientations, trainings and community events as well. Orientations and trainings for Peer Mentors are held at The Learning Center, 1346 N. Stone. At orientations mentors will participate in “Icebreakers” to get to know fellow mentors, discuss program goals, brainstorm mentor qualities, complete interview questionnaire, go through the interview process and receive paperwork. Bring a friend, bring a smile and be ready to have fun! Orientations and training dates will be scheduled as needed during the school year, for more information or to RSVP to an orientation or training please contact Michelle Rodriguez, 520-326-2528 ext 2123, or email mrodriguez@thepartnership.us |
